(CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – An Arthur driver is charged following a traffic stop on Tower Street South.
On January 10, 2026, at approximately 12:15 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check to examine the sobriety of drivers on Tower Street South in Fergus, where officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle that was initially headed towards the spot check but made a U-turn and began driving in the opposite direction.
As a result of the investigation, Gagundeep GILL, a 31-year-old from Arthur, is charged under the Criminal Code, the Highway Traffic Act, the Liquor Licence and Control Act, the Cannabis Control Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
- Driving while under suspension (two counts)
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
- Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
- Operate motor vehicle without insurance
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on February 10, 2026.
A 45-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
