(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Not that there is a good spot to speed but speeding in front of a police station certainly isn’t a wise move as one young driver from the Meaford area recently found out.
On December 6, 2020 at approximately 12:12 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling northbound on Albert Street when he spotted a minivan ahead speeding right in front of the Huron County OPP Detachment. A RADAR device was used to confirm the speed of the van and it was observed to be initially travelling at 85 km/h in the 50 km/h zone. The officer continued tracking the speed of the vehicle as it proceeded out of Clinton. The driver continued to accelerate and the vehicle’s speed reached a high of 174 km/h in the posted 90 km/h zone.
A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle was stopped north of Clinton. The driver, a 17-year-old from Meaford has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform a Stunt. He will now have to attend court on January 5, 2021 at Provincial Offences Court in Goderich.
