(GODFREY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Frontenac County Crime Unit has charged a second person in connection with a fatal boating collision that happened on the evening of May 18, 2024, on Bobs Lake.
The collision, involving two boats, claimed the lives of three people and injured three others.
A 27-year-old male from South Frontenac Township, has now been charged with:
- Failing to exhibit stern light on power-driven vessel underway
- Failing to exhibit sidelights on power-driven vessel underway
- Operating non-human-powered pleasure craft without personal flotation device or lifejacket of appropriate size for each person on board
The charges are for offences under the Canada Shipping Act of 2001.The accused will appear at the Provincial Offences Court in Kingston, on January 13, 2025.
The investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner, involved support from frontline officers, Collision Reconstructionists, as well as members of multiple OPP Crime Units, the Technical Collision Investigation Team, and Forensic Identification Services.
Criminal charges were recently laid against another individual in this case.
