Snow Squall Watch For Huron & Perth – 30cm Snow Possible Christmas & Boxing Day

4:37 PM EST Thursday 24 December 2020
Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County
  • Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County
  • Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County
  • Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Snow squalls are expected on Friday and possibly Saturday.

Hazards:
15 to 30 cm of snow
Quickly accumulating snow at times
Reduced visibilities in blowing snow and heavy falling snow

Timing:
Friday morning into Saturday

Impacts:
Hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibilities and snow accumulation

Discussion:
Cold northwesterly winds flowing over the warmer waters of Lake Huron will generate snow squalls beginning Friday morning. These snow squalls could potentially last into Saturday. Conditions should improve Saturday evening.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
