Arrest in January 13th break-in
The two suspects who were responsible for breaking into a Macdonell Street building on January 13, 2017 were identified through security video. The suspects later attempted to cash one of the personal cheques that were stolen during that break-in. On the afternoon of January 23rd, one of those identified men was seen walking on Wyndham Street and was arrested by police. During his arrest, drugs believed to be cocaine, methamphetamine and marihuana were also found.
The other suspect is still at large.
A 29 year-old Guelph man was held in custody for break and enter, drugs, stolen property and breach of probation charges. He will appear in bail court today.
Male caught attempting to steal wallet
On the evening of January 23rd, a man in a Stone Road Mall store was trying on some clothes when he noticed a man nearby his jacket he had set down. He went back to his jacket and found his wallet missing from inside and immediately confronted the male. He was able to get his wallet back from the male. Mall security and police were called.
Tongmeng Ching of Guelph was arrested, charged with theft and released to appear before the court on March 7, 2017.
Break-ins
At approximately 3:30am on January 23rd, two males entered a commercial building on Stone Road and tried without success to get into some of the individual units. They then entered the parking garage where they did an estimated $1000 damage to vehicle parked there.
The two suspects that were seen on video are described as being white, in their late teens or early 20’s, approximately 5’6” – 5’8” tall. One was wearing a grey hoodie with camo pants, black pants and black toque with a black backpack. The other male was wearing a black hoodie with a tear in the right shoulder area, with black pants, black boots and a white undershirt.

– Sometime overnight on January 23rd , an unknown suspect(s) broke into an active construction site on Victoria Road and made off with a number of electrical tools.

– A homeowner on Surrey Street reported to police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked garage overnight on January 23rd. An angle grinder and propane tank were taken.

Theft from vehicles
Overnight on January 23rd there were five vehicles reported entered across the city where money, CD’s, electronics and wedding invitations were taken.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
