On March 17, 2017 at 12:40am a home owner on Regent Street caught a male stealing items from inside her vehicle. When she ran to call police , the suspect fled on foot through her backyard.
Police Service Dog General was deployed to track the suspect. After 500 meters the suspect was located by the Police Dog and placed under arrest for theft under $5000. During the track, the K9 team was also able to recover stolen property that had been dropped by the suspect along the way. The property was returned to its owner.
Kevin Fabian, 46 years of age from Guelph was later released from custody and is to appear in court in May.
