Murder Charge In Missing Person Case

(SMITHS FALLS, ON) – A fourth individual has been charged in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation in Smiths Falls.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a missing person from Smiths Falls. Robbie THOMSON, who was 34 years old at that time, is believed to have gone missing sometime between Thursday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, three individuals were arrested and charged with first degree murder.

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Kelly Jordan Road. Human remains were located on the property and were identified as those of Robbie THOMSON.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Mark FENTON, 42 years old of Smiths Falls, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder, contrary to section 240 of the Criminal Code. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

The OPP will maintain a presence at the residential property on Kelly Jordan Road in Montague Township, near Smiths Falls, as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Lanark County OPP, in collaboration with the Smiths Falls Police Service, continues to investigate, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Assistance is being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services.
