(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 58-year-old from West Lorne is facing some serious driving related charges following a traffic stop that took place last night (28Mar) in Bayfield.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint from a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver. Information was relayed to police that the suspect driver had struck a stop sign in Brucefield and failed to remain at the scene of the collision. The driver then continued travelling westbound on Mill Road in an erratic manner.
A Huron OPP officer was able to intercept the suspect vehicle, a Ford Flex, in the Village of Bayfield. Upon stopping the driver the investigating officer determined the driver had been consuming some alcohol and his ability to drive was impaired. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, Robert GRAY, 58 years of age from West Lorne has been charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Dangerous Driving and Fail to Remain at the Scene of a Collision. He was later released from custody with a scheduled court appearance set for May 1, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice -. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was towed and impounded.
