On Sunday May 14 th , 2017 at approximately 9:20 p.m. the Owen Sound Police received a call from a citizen concerned that he had just observed a male party enter a down town liquor establishment with a large butcher knife concealed in his rear pocket of his pants. Officers attended the business locating the male inside who quickly attempted to leave upon seeing police.

Investigation of the male party confirmed that he had a large 13 inch kitchen knife in his rear pant pocket. The male party attempted to elude the officers by providing a false name. Further investigation uncovered the real identity of the man and that he was currently before the courts on outstanding criminal changes as well as being on two probation orders.

The 48 year old man now residing in Owen Sound from the Brantford area was arrested without incident. He has been held in police custody on the charges of Weapons Dangerous, Obstruct Police Officer, Breach of Officer in Charge Undertaking and 4 counts of Breach of Probation. He will be appearing in the Owen Sound Ontario Court of Justice on Monday morning for a bail hearing.

It remains undetermined why this individual would conceal such a knife and enter into a drinking establishment. By the actions taken of the anonymous caller it may have circumvented a more serious incident.
