(BLANSHARD TWP., ON) – Members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle crash on Line 10 of Blanshard Township at 11:30 p.m. on August 16, 2017.
Investigation revealed that the lone driver of the vehicle was westbound on the 10th Line when it veered off the roadway. The vehicle continued into a ditch approximately 20 feet deep striking multiple trees before coming to rest on its roof.
The driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Andre NESHAW from Mitchell Ontario died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. St. Marys Fire department attended the scene to assist in extrication.
OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene to investigate. The speed of the vehicle pre-collision was more than double the posted speed limit of 80 km/h. Alcohol is also a suspected causal factor in this crash.
50% of all fatal collisions this year in West Region involved single motor vehicles. Speed, alcohol and failure to wear seat belts have been identified as causal factors in each case investigated thus far. Preventable collisions don’t have to happen.
