(NORTH HURON & ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Two racing charges in just over an hour certainly isn’t unheard of but when it just happens to be two brothers getting charged back to back that very well could be a first.
On August 23, 2017 at 8:35 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Chevrolet Silverado towing a travel trailer heading eastbound on Amberley Road at a high rate of speed. A speed measurement was taken with a RADAR device and the speed of the vehicle was confirmed to be in excess of 50 km/h over the posted 80 km/h speed limit.
The driver was stopped and subsequently charged. Lucas O’ROURKE, 16 years of age from West Perth was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle.
The driver ended up calling his brother for a ride and just over an hour later the same officer spotted the brother’s vehicle racing down the highway.
This time, a Chevrolet Silverado was observed travelling northbound on Donnybrook Line at a speed in excess of 50 km/h over the posted 90 km/h speed limit. A traffic stop was completed and the driver was charged with Racing.
18-year-old John O’ROURKE, also from West Perth was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle. It will be a family affair at Provincial Offences Act Court in Goderich on October 3, 2017. Both drivers had their licences suspended for seven days and their vehicles were also impounded for a week.
