(CITY OF GUELPH, ON) – On Sunday October 1, 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) Check on the Hanlon Expressway near College Avenue, Guelph. At approximately 2:30 a.m. the driver of a Ford coupe entered the R.I.D.E. check.
While speaking with the male driver officers formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. Investigations also revealed the driver was a novice driver and was in possession of marihuana. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.
21-year-old Goncalves Brandon NOGUEIRA of Brampton has been charged with Driving with Over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code, Novice Driver with a Blood-Alcohol Level above Zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and with Possession of Marihuana contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to attend Guelph Court on November 10, 2017.
