(HURON EAST, ON) – A drunk driver arrested by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) should be thanking his lucky stars that he didn’t cause a devastating crash this past weekend. Just minutes before midnight on Friday, January 19, 2018 a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a Chrysler Intrepid travelling westbound through the village of St. Columban at a speed in excess of 170 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone. Considering the dangerous speed the vehicle was travelling at the officer did not attempt to stop the driver rather he notified Huron County officers to be on the lookout for the speeding car.
It turned out Huron OPP had some police vehicles in Seaforth and with the assistance of the Perth officer they were able to box in the suspect vehicle near the town’s main intersection. Upon stopping the driver officers spoke with the male and made several observations that he was impaired by alcohol. He was placed under arrest for Impaired Driving and was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests.
Ultimately the driver failed to provide samples of his breath to the Intoxilizer Technician and it was also determined the driver was failing to abide by several conditions of his probation sentence.
As a result, 27-year-old Keelind HAYWAHE from Sintaluta, Saskatchewan has been charged with the following offences: Impaired Driving, Fail to Provide Breath Sample, Fail to Comply With Probation Order – 3 counts, Race a Motor Vehicle, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor.
He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for February 5, 2018 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
