Man Charged with Theft

Yesterday, just before 1:00 p.m. the man attended a business on Grand Avenue West in Chatham. As he exited the store, he passed through and activated the sensors. As employees asked the man to empty his pockets, the man removed two pairs of Thinsulate gloves valued at $24.00 each. The man was placed under arrest by store security which caused him to become belligerent and pull away. The man was physically detained by staff upon police arrival. Through investigation, officers also found the man to be in possession of stolen bolt cutters valued at $21.00.

The 27-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and assault with intent to resist arrest. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
