Last night around 9:00 p.m. a man and woman became involved in a verbal argument which escalated in a physical altercation. It is alleged:
– The woman attempted to walk out of the bedroom when the man stood in the doorway preventing her from leaving
– The man pushed the woman and then placed his hands around her throat until she was unable to breath
– The man let the woman go, however he pushed her again resulting in her falling and hitting her head
– The man fled the apartment on his bicycle prior to police arrival
The 18-year-old Chatham woman did not seek medical attention. Around 1:30 a.m. officers located the man and he was arrested.
The 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged with assault, forcible confinement and overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
