(Huron East, ON) On November 20, 2010 shortly before 8:00 pm, a Huron OPP officer was patrolling on Manley Line when he observed a vehicle travelling at a very slow rate of speed. The officer turned around to stop the vehicle and check on the status of the driver but when the cruiser making its turn, the vehicle driver began to speed away. The officer followed with the emergency lights activated. The vehicle suddenly veered into the west ditch where it came to rest quickly and two occupants jumped out and ran. The officer followed the driver and he was caught in the field and arrested. The second party was not located but the investigation is continuing.
As a result of the incident, Wayne SCHOONDERWOERD (34) of Huron East has been charged with one count of Flight from Police. He will answer to this criminal charge in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on February 7, 2011.
