(Howick, ON) On November 19, 2010 at approximately 3:00 pm, members of the OPP Traffic Management and RIDE Unit based out of Mt. Forest were set up for a RIDE spot check at Harriston Road and Belmore Line in Howick Township. A male entered the checkpoint and upon speaking with the driver, the officer formed the grounds to read a demand for the driver to provide a roadside sample of his breath. The male complied and failed his test. He was then arrested and taken to the Palmerston OPP Detachment where he met with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician to provide two more samples of his breath. The test results confirmed that the driver had a blood alcohol level that was well over three times above the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol.
As a result of the RIDE check, Kevin BENNINGER (31) of Howick Township has been charged with one count of Drive With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He will answer to his charge in the Ontario Court of Justice on January 10, 2011.
