MIDDLESEX OPP BUSY WITH COLLISIONS

(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON) – Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is busy today dealing with numerous collisions on the roadways. On November 23, 2013 at approximately 10:20 a.m. police closed down Highway 401 eastbound lanes at Highbury Avenue as they dealt with the three-lane highway strewn with damaged cars and transport trucks. The highway has since been reopened.

As the traffic backup clears, motorists can help the situation by finding alternate routes to their destinations. An issue the OPP is also dealing with is motorists travelling the wrong way along the ramps as they find themselves stuck with other traffic. Provincial Constable Laurie HOUGHTON stresses the danger this can pose. “We are asking for the public’s patience as we deal with this situation. There are lots of vehicles to deal with and we are trying to keep everyone as safe as possible. By backing up on the roadway, not only are you breaking the law, you putting your life at risk and the lives of other drivers and responders at risk as well. It’s just not worth it.”

Middlesex OPP reminds motorists that weather and road conditions can change instantly and it is the driver’s responsibility to be prepared. “If driver’s just simply slow down and leave room to react to the conditions we can avoid a lot of the mess we have seen today” advises Constable HOUGHTON.
