Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man in connection with an incident of domestic violence.

Yesterday morning, a 33-year-old Chatham woman reported to police that she had been the victim of a domestic disturbance. In September 2013, the man and woman engaged in a verbal argument. The woman left the residence in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. While she was out the man sent her a threatening text message. Upon her return to the residence, the man caused about $2000 damage to their home. It is alleged that the man also picked up a broken piece of wooden bannister in an assaultive manner towards the woman. The woman was able to leave the residence without being physically injured.

Around 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon, officers located the man and he was arrested. The 33-year-old Chatham man has been charged with uttering threats, mischief under $5000 and assault with a weapon. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
