Male Arrested with Loaded Handgun

(Ottawa) – On Thursday the 21st of November 2013 at approximately 10:30 PM, members of the Ottawa Police Neighbourhood Office – Central Division arrested a male for communicating for the purpose of prostitution in the area of Gladstone Avenue at Bell Street. As the result of this arrest, officers located and seized a 22-calibre Phoenix Arms handgun. The handgun was loaded at the time of seizure. The driver, an Ottawa man, was identified as John BABIN (44 years) and is charged with the following criminal offences:

CC 86(1) – USE/HANDLE/STORE FIREARM, ETC. CARELESSLY
CC 88(1) – POSSESS WEAPON, ETC./DANGEROUS TO PUBLIC PEACE
CC 91(1) – UNLICENCED PERSON POSSESS UNREGISTERED FIREARM
CC 92(1) – POSSESS FIREARM KNOWING NO AUTHORITY
CC 94(1) – OCCUPY MOTOR VEHICLE WITH FIREARM
CC 95(1) – POSSESS LOADED REGULATED FIREARM
CC 96(1) – POSSESS FIREARM, ETC. OBTAINED BY CRIME
CC 213(1)(c) – COMMUNICATE FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROSTITUTION
CC 430(1)(d) – MISCHIEF – DID WILLFULLY INTERFERE WITH LAWFUL USE AND ENJOYMENT OF PROPERTY

BABIN was held in custody to appear in a Show Cause hearing. The Guns and Gangs Section continues the investigation.
