A London man has been charged with multiple driving offences following a traffic stop early this morning.
At 1:35 a.m. an officer conducting speed enforcement on Longwoods Road just east of Chatham clocked a vehicle travelling 121 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. The officer stopped the vehicle to investigate and observed an open bottle of beer in a cup holder inside the vehicle. The driver failed a roadside screening test and was transported to police headquarters for further breath testing. The results of the tests showed that his blood alcohol concentration was almost twice the legal limit.
A 34 year old London, Ontario man has been charged with driving with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, stunt driving, and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol. He was later released with a future court date. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days in accordance with Ontario’s Vehicle Impoundment Program.
The Chatham-Kent police urge motorists to obey the speed limit, and to not drink and drive.
