STRATFORD, Ont. – Luke Van Nes who beat one of Stratford’s beloved swans to death will be spending seven days in an Ontario jail, $1,000 fine and 60 hours community service.
Van Nes was also sentenced to two years of probation for the Swans Death and the destruction of the bird’s eggs in May 2010.
The court heard the 20-year-old and a friend had been drinking before going for a walk and attacking the nesting swan residents named Angela.
Van Nes must also abstain from alcohol and accept counseling for alcohol abuse.
The Crown had asked for three months in jail.
