WFP has received several complaints/inquires about local charities and
how much of the money raised actually makes to those that need
it. Rumors have been flying around about one new charity that has
started in Wingham and the motivation of those running it. The
popular opinion is that the charity in question was started strictly as
a means to solicit donations, which will be used for paying the salary
of the person asking for those donations. Obviously we don’t know
the true motivation of those running these charities, but we can find
out what their compensation is. We have found some charities that
don’t offer any compensation, and appear to be run by volunteers that
believe in their cause.
In a small survey of Winghamites, we found that virtually everyone
believes that those running local charities work for free or next to
nothing. There is still a belief that people running these
charities have taken a vow of poverty” and do charity work as they see
their cause as just and worthy of their sacrifices. The average
compensation paid out by the charities listed below is $85
