(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – On January 28, 2011 Huron OPP officers were on scene of a serious collision that had taken place on Bayfield Road at Parr Line at approximately 12:30 pm. The collision between a Volkswagen Jetta and a GMC pickup sent the Jetta driver to London with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The 61 year old Jetta driver has been charged with one count of Fail to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway.

While investigating the collision, officers placed cruisers with all lights illuminated across both lanes of travel to the east and the west of the collision to secure the scene. In addition, pylons were also set out to further protect the scene. Despite these efforts to protect themselves from inattentive motorists, a man entered the scene from the east at approximately 2:00 pm at a high rate of speed causing officers to have to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. The driver continued through the scene and was stopped by one of the officers approximately 1 kilometre away.

As a result of the traffic stop, Thomas SHEPPARD (19) of Bayfield has been charged with one count of Careless Driving, one count of Fail to Slow Down and Proceed with Caution for Emergency Vehicles, one count of Drive With No Insurance, one count of Drive With Open Container of Liquor and one count of Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle.
