(BLUEWATER, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers have arrested and charged two males with several criminal offences thanks to an early morning 911 call from a quick thinking witness.
Just after 6:00 a.m. on January 14, 2014 Huron OPP officers responded to a report of suspicious activity taking place on William Street in the Highlands II subdivision. The witness observed an unfamiliar vehicle driving around the subdivision. Shortly thereafter she heard an audible alarm sounding along with some loud banging noises coming from inside one of her neighbour’s homes. She immediately called police and provided an accurate description of the events that were unfolding.
Police soon arrived and commenced a search for the suspects and suspect vehicle. Officers were able to track one of the suspects to a nearby beach where he was arrested without incident.
A few minutes later, a Lambton County OPP officer assisting in the search for the second suspect attempted to stop a GMC Jimmy on Turnbull’s Grove Road. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and led police on a chase. Officers were able to successfully stop the fleeing vehicle on Corbett Line at Mount Carmel Road. The GMC Jimmy was confirmed stolen from a residence south of the Highlands subdivision. Upon arresting the driver he was searched and was found to be in possession of throwing knives, a prohibited weapon.
In total, the break and enter suspects were responsible for five break-ins in the Highlands subdivision.
The driver of the stolen GMC Jimmy, 29 year old Jason SYLVESTRE from Windsor has been charged with:
Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1 Criminal Code
Flight from Peace Officer contrary to section 249.1 (1) Criminal Code
Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249 (1)(a) Criminal Code
Carry Concealed Weapon contrary to section 90 Criminal Code
Possession of Break in Tools contrary to section 351 (1) Criminal Code
(5) counts of Break, Enter Dwelling House and Commit Indictable Offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) Criminal Code
The second suspect, 49 year old Warren BROTHERS from London has been charged with:

Possession of Break in Tools contrary to section 351 (1) Criminal Code
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to section 354 (1)(a) Criminal Code
Both accused were held in custody and have video court appearances scheduled on January 17, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
