19 Year Old Faces Charges For Threatening Children and Pets On Social Media

(ADJALA-TOSORONTIO, ON)- The Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint about threats being posted on social media on January 20, 2014. Police determined through the course of the investigation that the male was on a recognizance from the court with conditions not to communicate with the victim for a previous incident.

Charged is a 19 year old Town of New Tecumseth male whose name will not be released in efforts to protect the identity of the victims who are 12 and 14 years of age.

The charges for the male will be Fail to Comply with a Recognizance, Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and Uttering threats to damage or injure animal under the Criminal Code of Canada. He will appear in bail court this morning in Barrie to answer to these charges.

The OPP want the public to know that while the Internet and new communications technologies have true positive value for us as a society, they also have a down side. These new communications technologies are allowing old crimes to be committed in new ways and they are fostering the development of new crimes.
