Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle

Occurrence #: BA14-006321
Date: Saturday, February 8, 2014 – 10:30pm
On the 8th of February 2014, at approximately 10:30pm, Barrie Police attended a motor vehicle accident where the driver was lucky to be found alive!

Minutes prior to the call to police, a motor vehicle was observed travelling southbound on Anne Street at a high rate of speed. As the vehicle proceeded through the intersection at Tiffin Street, it hit a snowbank which caused the vehicle to go airborne. While in the air the vehicle flipped upside down and landed on its hooded causing it to spin multiple times while sliding down the road.

When the vehicle came to a stop a lone 44 year old male was observed exiting the driver side and began running into the commercial area on Tiffin Street.

Police arrived on scene within minutes, tracked the male and subsequently arrested him for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The male who miraculously was not injured was transported to the station where he provided samples of his breath. It was revealed that the male was two and a half times the legal limit.

The 44 year old male will now be required to attend court in the last week of February for the offences of Impaired operation and over 80mgs.
