(ST.MARYS, ON) On Thursday morning February 24, 2011, at 7 a.m., Perth County OPP officers in St.Marys were called to Carrall St., where a resident walking his dog located an unlocked vehicle abandoned on the street with keys in the ignition.
At the same time a resident from Thomas St. South contacted police, advising that a pickup truck had been stolen from their driveway. Police confirmed that the abandoned vehicle was the stolen pickup truck from Thomas St. South.
The stolen pickup truck had been parked on the owner’s driveway and the keys had been left in the ignition. The truck was driven away sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday February 23 and 5 a.m. Thursday February 24. The truck owner reports that an older IPOD had been removed from the truck but nothing else appeared to be missing and the truck was not damaged
This is the third such theft/recovery of a vehicle in St.Marys in a week. In all instances the thefts were opportunistic, with garage doors open or unlocked and keys left in the ignition or beside the vehicle. The public is urged to secure their vehicles and remove their keys. If suspicious persons are observed in your neighbourhood call the police immediately.
