Shortly before midnight on August 25, 2009 Huron OPP and other emergency services were called to the Sifto Salt Mine in Goderich regarding an industrial accident. Upon arrival emergency workers were directed to a salt storage dome on the property where it was determined that an employee had fallen into a chute leading to a trench conveyor system for the salt. Workers were able to locate the employee, 57 year old Murray Nesbitt of North Huron, who was transported to the Goderich Hospital. He was later pronounced deceased.
The Ministry of Labour was called to the scene and are continuing their investigation.
