The Chatham-Kent police would like to remind all drivers and passengers that it is law here in Ontario to wear their seat belt. Drivers must ensure that passengers under 16 years are buckled up or secured in a child safety seat. Failing to comply may result in the driver being charged. As for passengers 16 and older, they are responsible for wearing their seat belt.
Just as a reminder:
A seat belt won’t protect you if it is not worn properly. Never wear the shoulder strap under the arm where it could damage your ribs.
A seat belt keeps the driver behind the wheel and in control during a collision.
A seat belt keeps you inside the vehicle during a collision rather than being ejected
Seat belts and child safety seats are the most cost effective means we have of reducing injuries and deaths from motor vehicle collisions.
