Two Vehicles Stolen, One Recovered

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Wednesday March 16, 2011 shortly before 8 a.m. Perth County OPP officers were called to the Mitchell District High School where a green 2001 Sierra pickup truck with tinted windows was found abandoned stuck in the mud in a field behind the school.

As officers were being dispatched to the school, a resident from Line 39 North East of Mitchell was reporting that sometime between 8:15 p.m. Tuesday March 15 and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday March 16 unknown person(s) stole a 2001 Sierra pickup truck from the rural property. The truck had been parked in a long laneway a fair distance from the road. The pickup truck was unlocked and the keys had been left inside. The recovered and abandoned truck, were found to be the same vehicle.

At 8:45 a.m. Wednesday March 16, 2011 a call was received from a resident on Line 36, North East of Mitchell advising that their black 1998 Honda Accord had been stolen from the driveway. The vehicle has Ontario plates, 991NPW attached to it.

Investigation revealed that this vehicle was last seen on the victim’s driveway at 4:30 p.m. on March 15, 2011. The keys for this car had also been left in the vehicle and the doors were unlocked.

The Perth County OPP is requesting anyone who may have information about these thefts to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or to call CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-222-8477. They are also reminding residents to lock their vehicles and remove the keys from the ignition. Let’s do our part in “Crime Prevention” by taking these small steps to secure our vehicles.
