(Ottawa)-The Ottawa Police Service Street Crime Unit (SCU) charged 28 people with drug trafficking and other related offences following a week-long enforcement campaign focusing on George Street, in Ottawa.
Acting on complaints from local businesses and residents, the SCU was utilized to target the illicit drug trafficking in the area of George Street between King Edward Avenue and Dalhousie Street from February 24 to March 1, 2014.
As a result of this investigation, 28 people have been identified and charged with 91 offences related to the trafficking of crack cocaine, prescription pills and marijuana. The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at $5000. Of the charged persons, 15 have been arrested and the remaining 13 offenders are being sought by police. Of those charged, four were young offenders.
The Street Crime Unit was created within the Ottawa Police in 2007 to specifically target the street level trafficking which was increasingly having negative effects in our community.
