(Ottawa) Yesterday, an Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Member was charged with two Criminal Code of Canada offences.
The Ottawa man has been charged with one count of assault and one count of careless storage of a firearm for an incident that occurred on the morning of Saturday March 8.

The careless storage of a firearm relates to an unloaded service issued firearm that was not stored properly.
The OPS will not release the name of the officer in order to protect the victim’s privacy as this relates to a domestic matter.
The OPS Professional Standards Section is also investigating the matter and charges may be laid under the Police Services Act.

This matter is before the courts and it is important that we respect due process
