HURON DISTRACTED DRIVING CAMPAIGN ENDS – ENFORCEMENT TO CONTINUE

(HURON COUNTY, ON) -Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers charged a total of 47 drivers during the recent province wide Distracted Driving Campaign. The week long campaign wrapped up on March 14, 2014.

Although the campaign is over it certainly doesn’t mean enforcement will come to a halt. Officers will continue to be on the lookout on a daily basis for those drivers that continue to put others at risk by using their cell phone or entertainment device while driving. The Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP) uses a combination of enforcement, education and high officer visibility to encourage safe driving behaviour for the benefit of everyone

Huron County OPP would like to remind drivers, the fines for Distracted Driving under section 78.1 of the Highway Traffic Act increased today (March 18) to $280 (this includes a victim fine surcharge and court costs). The previous fine was $155.
