The Guelph Police Service wishes to notify the public about a scam involving fraudulent communications from the Canada Revenue Agency. Residents have reported receiving phone calls, letters or emails appearing to be from the CRA indicating either they are owed a refund or that they owe back taxes which are due immediately.
These communications go on to instruct the receiver to provide personal information in order to receive the benefit or pay the outstanding bill. As per the Canada Revenue Agency Website, the CRA will not request personal information of any kind of a taxpayer by email.
