(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On March 23, 2014 at 9:10pm the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police OPP were contacted about an abandoned black Dodge Caravan at the side of the road on Warner Bay Road, Northern Bruce Peninsula. The vehicle had been there all day, and there were footprints in the snow leading from the parked vehicle into the bush, but none returning.
The Owen Sound Police Service checked the registered owner’s house and could not locate the owner of the vehicle. Police also attempted to contact the owner by cell phone, but were unsuccessful.
Due to the extremely cold weather and duration of time that the parties had been out in the bush, the OPP were concerned for the parties safety and wellbeing. With the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and OPP Canine Unit, the parties were located at 6:45am safe and sound, winter camping in the remote bush of Northern Bruce Peninsula.
The parties had been well equipped for their winter camping adventure and did not require any assistance.
Police would like to remind the public that if you plan on leaving your vehicle at the side of the road for a period of time, please leave a note on the dashboard visible with the following information:
— Contact phone number.
— Duration of time you will be away from your vehicle and area you are camping/hiking in.
This information is important and will assist Police with the details needed should something come up and you need to be contacted and also police will know there is no emergency.
