Location: MYERS RD and WATER ST S, CAMBRIDGE ON Canada
On Saturday, April 12, 2014 at approximately 1:00pm two males launched their kayaks at the Water Street South boat ramp with intentions of travelling southward down the Grand River. Approximately 1 km south of the boat launch both individuals capsized their kayaks. One of the males was able to recover his kayak while the other could not. The male was able to climb up onto an island in the river and wait for assistance as the current was too strong to swim across to shore. The second male paddled to shore and contacted authorities. Police, Cambridge Fire and and EMS responded to the scene where the male was located and returned to shore with the use of the fire departments watercraft. Both makes involved were uninjured as a result of this occurrence. Police remind everyone to be very carefully around water, especially this time of year when rivers are deep, cold and fast running.
