137 in an 80 On Way To Cottage

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Friday April 17, 2014 around 9:30 p.m., an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting patrols along Highway 8 west of Mitchell when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

An SUV was observed travelling west bound on Highway 8 at an extremely high rate of speed. The officer activated the police radar and locked the vehicle in at a speed of 137 km/h. This is 57 km/h above the posted 80 km/h zone. The 2013 Nissan Rogue was pulled over near Dublin. The male driver of the Nissan, his wife and two young daughters were travelling to a cottage along Lake Huron to spend the Easter Long Weekend. The driver, a 49 year old male from Toronto was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”. The driver is to appear at Stratford Court on May 13, 2014 to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a week.

The Perth County OPP wish to remind the public that the “Big 4” driving behaviours, impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt usage will be a high priority for all OPP officers throughout the province this Easter Long Weekend.
