On April 24, 2014 at approximately 4:15 pm a collision occurred between a Toyota car and a pedestrian on Bearinger Road in the City of Waterloo. The Toyota, being driven by a 27 year old Waterloo woman, was westbound on Bearinger Road. The pedestrian, a 50 year old woman also from Waterloo, was walking on the north sidewalk westbound on Bearinger Road. The driver of the Toyota lost control of the car which exited the roadway, mounted the curb, and drove on the sidewalk striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. She was then taken to a trauma center outside of Waterloo Region by air ambulance. The driver of the car did not sustain any injuries. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the incident however fatigue was a factor. The Toyota driver was summoned to court to answer to the charge of Careless Driving as a result of the collision.
