MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) At approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday June 08, 2011 Perth County OPP officers were called to Line 26 between Road 170 and Road 179 where a dump truck had left the roadway and struck a tree.
Investigation revealed that the dump truck had been travelling West bound on Line 26 and veered into the north ditch. The truck subsequently tipped on its side and struck a tree. The truck partially spilled the load of soil it was carrying.
As a result of the crash a small amount of diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid spilled into the ditch. The fluids were contained and the Ontario Ministry of Environment (M.O.E.) was notified. The contaminated soil was immediately removed as per M.O.E. requirements.
The driver a 63 year old male from the Municipality of West Perth had to be removed from the truck by the West Perth Fire Dept. He was transported to hospital where he was treated and released. The driver has since been charged with careless driving, and with having invalid licence plates on the truck.
