Construction Zone Collision

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Thursday June 30, 2011 shortly after 10 a.m. Perth County OPP officers and Perth County Ambulance personnel were called to a two vehicle collision on Hwy. 8 east of Road 125.

Police investigation revealed that an eastbound sedan driven by an 18 year old female from the Municipality of West Perth had driven into the back of a vehicle with 3 Municipality of North Perth residents (one of which was a 7 week old infant). The crash occurred in a construction zone controlled by traffic control persons. The involved persons were transported to the Stratford General Hospital where they were treated and released. The driver from West Perth has been charged with careless driving and will have to appear in Stratford court on August 16, 2011 to answer to the charge.

This is the second collision along the same stretch of road in just over a week. The road is signed as a construction zone and traffic control persons are controlling the east west flow of traffic which at times is reduced to a single lane.

The first crash on Tuesday June 21, 2011 occurred at around 5:30 p.m. and involved one vehicle stopping and the second vehicle driving into the back of it. This collision did not cause injuries but resulted in extensive property damage this also resulted in a 33 year old male driver from the Township of Perth South being charged.

The Perth County OPP urges motorists to slow down, and to be extra observant when travelling in construction zones. Pay attention to traffic control persons, uneven road surfaces, construction equipment and other motorists.
