(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) Shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday July 04, 2011 Perth County OPP officers in Listowel were dispatched to Wallace Ave. North near the McDonald’s restaurant where a collision had occurred.
Investigation revealed that a south bound pickup truck on Wallace Ave. North had been towing a utility trailer. The trailer came loose from the hitch and veered into the north bound lane where it crossed in front of a north bound tanker truck. The tanker truck struck the trailer with the passenger side front corner. No injuries were sustained as a result of this collision but there was damage to the tanker truck and trailer.
The pickup truck driver, a 55 year old male from Tay Twp., was charged with “improper means of attachmentâ€.
This collision emphasises the importance of the requirements of towing trailers, objects or devices on the road. This crash had the potential of serious injury and damage.
The legislation reads as follows, “No motor vehicle or farm tractor on a highway shall do any towing unless there are two separate means of attachment so constructed and attached that the failure of one such means will not permit the towed motor vehicle, trailer, object or device being drawn to become detachedâ€.
