On Monday June 30, 2014, a 37 year old Kitchener man was driving southbound on Gaukel Street in the city of Kitchener. As the car turned right onto Charles Street West, the car collided with a bicycle travelling southbound on the Gaukel Street sidewalk. The cyclist, a 60 year old Kitchener man, suffered a broken leg. The driver of the car was not injured. The cyclist was charged under the regional bylaw with Riding a Bicycle on a sidewalk.
