(BLUEWATER, ON) – A switcheroo attempt failed miserably for a driver and a passenger this past week. Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on June 26, 2014 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a southbound Dodge Dakota pickup truck travelling southbound on London Road near Short Horn Road at a high rate of speed. A check with a RADAR device revealed the driver was travelling at 109 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. A traffic stop was initiated and as the officer turned around to stop the vehicle, the male driver and his female passenger switched seats.
Upon speaking with the male, who was now seated in the middle seat police determined he was a suspended driver. In addition, he was unable to surrender a valid insurance card for the vehicle.
Officers then spoke with the female, now seated in the driver’s seat, and determined she had been consuming alcohol. A roadside screening test was completed and she registered a fail. She was transported back to detachment where she provided breath tests to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; Both tests registered over the legal limit.
Police have charged, 45 year old Kathleen CARTER from Bluewater. She has been charged with Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams. She has since been released from custody and has a court date scheduled for August 11, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
Also facing charges is 22 year old Bluewater resident Tolson CARTER. He has been charged with Speeding, Drive While Under Suspension, Fail to Surrender Insurance Card and No Validation on Plate. He will have to attend Provincial Offences Court in Goderich at a later date.
Their motor vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
