Serious Weekend Collisions

Unfortunately the beautiful weather this past weekend has been overshadowed by several collisions on our local roadways. Over the weekend of Friday, July 4, 2014 until Sunday, July 6, 2014, there were 17 reported collisions that resulted in injuries. Of those, three resulted in serious injuries.

On Friday, July 4 at approximately 11:35 p.m., a motorcycle left the roadway and struck a tree in the area of Guildwood Boulevard and Richmeadow Crescent, sending the driver and the passenger to hospital. The 28-year-old male driver remains in hospital in fair condition and the 21-year-old female passenger is listed in critical condition.

On Sunday, July 6, emergency personnel were called to the area of Oxford Street and Talbot Street at approximately 5:55 p.m. in relation to a collision. The vehicle left the roadway and struck two pedestrians. The 28-year-old female pedestrian has been discharged from hospital and the 33-year-old male pedestrian remains in hospital in fair condition. The 19-year-old male driver was not injured.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, emergency services were called to Outer Drive where a pedestrian had been struck and the vehicle had not remained at the scene. The 59-year-old lady was transported to hospital with several injuries and has since been discharged. A 49-year-old man from London has been arrested.

These investigations are ongoing and charges are pending for all three.

Drivers are reminded that it is important to have care and control of your vehicles at all times. Exercising great caution while behind the steering wheel or handlebars will assist with ensuring the safety of everyone on and around our roadways!
