Man Charged with Trespassing by Night and Theft

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a report of a suspicious person last night in Chatham.

Around 11:30 p.m. a homeowner on Warwick Drive observed an unknown man sitting in his unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway. The man was rummaging through contents inside the vehicle. As the man attempted to flee, he was stopped by alert citizens in the area and held until police arrived. The man was arrested and found to be in possession of Canadian Tire money stolen from the vehicle.

David Murphy, 25 years, of Queens Line in Raleigh Township has been charged with theft under $5000, possession of stolen property obtained by a crime under $5000 and trespassing by night. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.
