Occurrence #: BA14034456
Date: Tuesday, July 22, 2014 – 9:14pm
A young adult woman called Barrie Police Service because she was operating a boat on Kempenfelt Bay when her battery died. The woman and her friends in the boat were 50 meters from Johnson’s Beach. She requested Barrie Police Marine Unit to tow her in due to a storm coming. The 911 Communications Clerk encouraged the girls to paddle into shore where they met an officer. The officer assisted the boat operator with temporary storage of the boat at a slip at a local marina.
Barrie Police Service would like to remind all citizens that police do not tow boats unless it is to preserve life, prevent it from sinking, to prevent it from drifting thereby creating a hazard to other boats, when the operator has been arrested or other circumstances the Marine Unit determines necessary. Boat operators should program local marinas and/or friends phone numbers that can offer towing services into their phones.
