(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Saturday July 26, 2014, shortly after 10 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a 19 year old Municipality of West Perth Male who was operating a pickup truck on William Street in Mitchell. The male had failed to dim his headlights while meeting the OPP cruiser.
The officer administered a roadside breath test on the driver which determined that he had been consuming alcohol and had a Blood Alcohol Concentration (B.A.C) above zero. The male was charged with “young driver- B.A.C. above zero†contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He was also charged with “driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor†contrary to the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario.
All young drivers are reminded that there are stiff penalties for driving a motor vehicle with a B.A.C above zero. All drivers who are 21 or under must have a B.A.C level of zero when operating a motor vehicle. If these drivers are caught with any amount of alcohol in their blood, they will receive an immediate 24-hour roadside driver licence suspensions, or a 30 day suspension and up to $500 in fines.
