Robert THOMAS – Drunk Driving

(BLUEWATER, ON) Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 58 year old male with Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol and Speeding following a traffic stop yesterday morning. At 9:45 a.m. a Huron County OPP officer observed a Dodge Ram pickup travelling southbound on London Road at a high rate of speed. The officer confirmed the driver was speeding in excess of 30 kilometres over the 80 km/h speed limit by using a RADAR device. A traffic stop was conducted and upon speaking with the driver the officer detected the driver had been drinking alcohol.

A roadside screening test was performed which the driver failed. He was arrested and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; Both tests were over the legal limit. A search incident to arrest also led to the discovery of an open bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle.

As a result, Robert THOMAS, 58, from West Perth, has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol and Speeding. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on August 25, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
