Numerous Speeders Charged

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) Since August 01, 2014 the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police has investigated five racing driver incidents where drivers operated their motor vehicles in excess of 50 km/h above the posted speed limit.

On Friday August 01, around 8 a.m., a 54 year old male from The Township of Perth South operated his pickup truck at 139 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Perth Line 26 south of Stratford.

On Friday August 01 shortly after 3 p.m., a 19 year old male from The Township of Perth South operated his Volkswagen Jetta at 146 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Line 39 North West of Mitchell.

On Saturday August 02, before 1 p.m., a 34 year old male from Stratford drove his Chrysler sedan at 131 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Hwy 7 near St.Marys.

On Sunday August 03, around 4:45 p.m., a 32 year old male from Cambridge was driving his Yamaha motorcycle on Perth Line 20 near Fullarton at 140 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

On Sunday August 10 shortly after 2:30 p.m., a 17 year old male from Kitchener was driving his Toyota sedan on Perth Line 20 south of Sebringville at 138 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

All five of these irresponsible drivers have been charged with “race a motor vehicle”, they have all been issued a summons instructing them to appear in Stratford court where they are to answer to this charge. They each had their licences suspended for seven days and their vehicles were impounded for a week.

The Perth County OPP will continue to target impaired, aggressive and suspended drivers. Citizens are urged to contact police immediately if they witness or suspect an impaired driver. The OPP can be reached anytime anywhere within the Province of Ontario at 1-888-310-1122.
